Seismic Retrofit Program

SEISMIC RETROFIT

Mandatory Retrofits in Santa Monica and Los Angeles.

The City of Los Angeles passed Ordinance 183893, which says that wood-frame soft-story buildings and non-ductile concrete buildings built before 1978 must be fixed. With proper strengthening, these buildings could stay intact during or after an earthquake if made more robust. Under the ordinance, the mandatory retrofit programs aim to reduce these structural deficiencies and improve the performance of these buildings during earthquakes.

If you live in Los Angeles or Santa Monica and have one of these buildings, let us help you.

The most obvious risks of earthquakes are damage to buildings that aren’t very strong, physical harm, death, and a lot of money lost. You may lower your risk and save money by acting now.

The City Council adopted the Seismic Retrofit Ordinance in March 2017. The Program acknowledges the reality within our region and proactively seeks to strengthen existing older buildings to enhance the security and safety of their occupants.

Earthquake preparedness is a part of life in Southern California.

More than 2,000 office and multi-family structures were found to be potentially seismically unstable, needing potential structural modification, and subject to the Program’s requirements.
